Unclaimed lottery money

by @ 3:09 pm on October 19, 2008. Filed under Lottery News

As I was watching the lottery show live on BBC1 last night, the presenter (her name escapes me) was asking people to check for a lottery ticket which is about to expire, that has a nice amount of money to be won attached to it. This seems to be happening a lot, people buy a ticket and then either lose it or forget to check. The winnings which go unclaimed go to charity, so its not all bad but still imagine if you won and didnt realise, or worse couldnt find you winning ticket.

Look at the below, this is just a selection of the UK national lottery prizes that are unclaimed and expiring soon.

A ticket for the UK National lottery draw dated 17th of May 2008 (draw number 1294) was bought in the warrington area, and is worth a massive £397,462. This won the prize for matching 5 plus the bonus ball. The lotto numbers for this draw were 03,11,12,41,46,47 BB: 20 – the ticket holder has until the 13th of November 2008 to claim the prize.

A ticket for the UK National lottery draw dated 28th of June 2008 (draw number 1306) was bought in Medway area and is worth a nice £67,889. This won the prize for matching 5 plus the bonus ball. This won the prize for matching 5 plus the bonus ball. The lotto numbers for this draw were 3, 12, 17, 18, 22, 42 BB: 19 – the ticket holder has until the 12th Janruary 2009 to claim the prize.

A ticket for the UK National lotto draw dated 09th of August 2008 (draw number 1318) was bought in Aberdeen City area and is worth a nice £121,340. This won the prize for matching 5 plus the bonus ball. The lotto numbers for this draw were 9, 10, 17, 29, 33, 40 BB: 15 – the ticket holder has until the 05th February 2009 to claim the prize.

A ticket for the UK National lotto draw dated 03rd of September 2008 (draw number 1325) was bought in London Borough of Bromley area and is worth a massive £448,851. This won the prize for matching 6 main numbers. The lotto numbers for this draw were 3, 5, 7, 9, 24, 35 BB: 11 – the ticket holder has until the 02nd March 2009 to claim the prize.

A ticket for the UK National lotto draw dated 27th of September 2008 (draw number 1332) was bought in the Colchester area area and is a cool £78,507. This won the prize for matching matching 5 plus the bonus ball. The lotto numbers for this draw were 11, 21, 27, 38, 40, 44 BB: 02 – the ticket holder has until the 26th March 2009 to claim the prize.

Just the above examples add up to a staggering £1,572,741 in unclaimed prizes from just a few lottery draws, with god knows how many in the past, and other small prizes yet to be claim. A scary though hey, but good news it that all the unclaimed money goes to good causes, so if people lose the money, at least its put to good use.

Of course should any of these people be in an elottery syndicate, well this would never happen, as the tickets are bought automatically every week, and the numbers checked, with any winnigns sent out in the post with no deductions taken. A lot simpler, and meaning that we will never be in the above situation.

Ah well time to go and leave the internet for a while all the best for now.
