Lottery sales increase
Despite the economy and the doom and gloom in the media about people having no money, petrol prices increasing and MP's suprisingly being in it for their own good. Lottery sales are up, is this because people are looking for a way to make some good money? Or is it because it's now easier to play lottery games online, either direct or few genuine syndicate organising sites like www.lottomad.com ????
The operator of the UK National lottery and part operator of the Euro Millions lottery Camelot, says overall sales are up more than 4% over 2008. They confirm that refiguring the sales promotional and prize methods helped the British lottery to better gambling sales than had been seen in more than the last ten years.
Driving the increase in gaming business for the lottery is the spike in online ticket sales. Camelot officials say Internet and mobile sales have risen thirty-two percent over the past year. Lottery players can now play online at the official lottery site, via digital television channels and on lottery syndicate sites like elottery etc.
Recent huge lottery jackpots like the Euromillions which recently went over £100 million, as well as famous personalities promoting the lottery are also reported to have increased sales. Scratch card sales have been helped by being tied it with movie figures like James bond.
"The main reason people play is to win large amounts of money. Any big jackpot win in the UK gives a huge boost to ticket sales of that particular game," said a lottery spokesman.
The methods employed to garner the sharp increase in lottery sales mirror those recommended for US lotteries by a consulting study earlier this year. However, US lotteries are finding expansions to the Internet being hindered inadvertently by the UIGEA ban, which is supposed to exempt them from payment blocks.
Last year lottery sales contributed over $2.25 billion to charities in the UK, an increase of over $41 million on previous years.
