Local Basingstoke councillor, Elizabeth Lovelock, is preparing to celebrate a very special Christmas with her family, after winning the top prize on the £100,000 Christmas scratchcard from The National Lottery.
Elizabeth and her husband, Robert, had already booked a Christmas shopping trip to Berlin - so, after finding out they were £100,000 richer, the lucky couple actually took the winning scratchcard with them on their trip. It was only when they returned that they were able to claim their prize. However, while they were away, the couple thought hard about what they wanted to do with their money - including paying for a Christmas family reunion this year.
Elizabeth said: "The win is absolutely life-changing. We're going to pay off the mortgage - which is a dream come true - and I can have the kitchen I've always wanted. It also means we can pay for our daughter, her husband and our grandson to fly over from Dubai and spend some quality time with us and our son, Ben, this Christmas. It's the best Christmas present I could have hoped for."
It was Robert who bought the winning £100,000 Christmas scratchcard using some of his winnings from the Thunderball draw on Saturday 8th December. He gave two scratchcards to Elizabeth to scratch off while she was writing an email to daughter, Amy, who lives in Dubai.
She added: "I remember Robert shouted out to me that if I scratched off a Santa then we would have won £12. I had two £100,000s on the first line and then scratched off the very important third £100,000 - I couldn't believe it!"
