Bikedate 18th Sep, bikeplace Dover
The second part of the report of the 5 country cycle challenge in aid of epilepsy action. An exciting adventure that has really enocouraged me to do more cycling and I am planning some more cycling charity things soon.
Okay so the stories continues from the cycle blog part one…. we are still in the United Kingdom…
With Knighty at the wheel of our trusty camper van/support bus, there is no surprise that we were here by 14.30 (dover), overtaking a couple of lorries in the port with a manouevre which lost Lewis Hamilton a couple of places in the last but one Grand Prix. However, he impressed passport control by answering 'Switzerland', rather than 'Calais' to 'where are you going?' Top marks, Knighty.
Next was security where we were quizzed briefly as to the purpose of our trip, before being told 'Oh, get on with you you before I fall asleep, I need a cup of coffee.' Missed a trick though by not producing sponsor form after explaining what we were doing. No marks for entrepreneurial insight.
Safely parked on the loading lane, finally it's time for a late lunch. Merci beaucoup a Madame Hawkeye pour les comestibles delicieuses. Le pate etait exceptionel. Bravo.
Alongside us is a Jaguar painted in zebra stripes, with cow horns strapped to the roof, pigeons on the bonnet and boot and bull bars made from plastic plumbing pipes. Off on the 'Staples to Naples' rally, an ambition of Roger, apparently. Except that it's no longer from Staples Corner, and finishes in Rome instead of Naples. C'est la vie.
All we need now is a ferry – no sign of one at the moment though departure was due 15.15.. Could it be that my customers MSC Europe have arrested it for non-payment for the recent re-fit? No, that was Sea France, not P+ O. What do we want- a ferry. When do we want it – now!
A bientot.
