Epilepsy action five country cycle 2008 challenge part one

by @ 6:21 am on October 7, 2008. Filed under AB Personal Updates

Nothing to do with lottery here, but as a lot of you will know, I recently took part in a five country cycle challenge for epilepsy action. We cyclced through 5 countries covering 535 miles in just three days it was massive fun, and I thought I would do a 3 day blog o n what happened. Names have been replaced with nicknames.

Bikedate 18th Sep, bikeplace Clacketts Lane.

Well, here we are, no turning back now, and what a time to leave our desks behind.  Please make sure they're still ours when we come back, no letting Mr D eye them up for his friends from across the Border!

Instructions to bring back wine, cheese and a slice of BNP (bank of paris) received from Mr T and noted.  LTSBHBOSBNP has quite a good ring to it, I think.

It's been an eventful morning.  Hawkeye has already had two punctures from overinflating his tyres, a company going into liquidation, and been pulled over by the police less than 10 miles from home, yes really!  Apparently our motorhome currently has no registered keeper, so was picked up on a DVLA check.

Fortunately we have suitable paperwork from our terrific supporters Webbs Motor Caravans of Warminster, which saw the boys in blue off without us needing to buy tickets for the policemen's ball.

Arrival at Mr S Acres proved to be a disappointment to the three Daves as the only building visible was indeed a modest prefab (presumably the lodge) and there was no sign of the formal gardens allegedly designed by Capability Brown.  In fact, Hawkeye described it more as a downmarket Beaulieu motor museum with a selection of elderly Volkswagens strewn around the front garden and drive as well as Wingco's flying Saab.

Wingco had obviously given all the staff the day off, as only Mrs Wingco was in evidence, spurring the team on with a banner wishing the team well and presenting them with one of her famed fruitcakes.  On yer bike, Mr Kipling.

Talking of which, a string of forwarded e-mails from Wingco to J back at the Royal Bank of North End gave her the long-awaited chance to use the same expression.

Knighty clearly was taking everything including the kitchen sink, producing a vast array of culinary implements for stowing in the vehicle.

Roger the Cabin Boy is clearly packing in the calories, demolishing Snickers bars like they're going out of fashion and currently tucking in to a well-filled bagel.

The motor home (Ace Roma to be precise) has all the aerodynamics of a breezeblock, but rumbles along well on the motorway.  Will we be able to say the same once we're in the saddle?

Roger and out, well perhaps just out for now!

Onward to Dover, coachman… next instalment coming soon……
