Who Wants To Be The 2,000th National Lottery

Millionaire? ‘I Do!’ Says Lowestoft Grandmother

A grandmother from Lowestoft is looking forward to a glittering Christmas celebration this year after winning a £2,192,219 Lotto fortune – making her the 2,000th millionaire created by The National Lottery®.

Stephanie Spindler (51) pulled her Christmas cracker by matching all six main numbers in the Lotto draw on Saturday 9 December 2006. With two grown up daughters and a teenage son – Teri (31), Kate (26) and Harry (14) – plus three grandchildren, Stephanie is already thinking of purchasing a plot of land in Lowestoft on which to build two family homes.

Stephanie said: “I was watching the lottery draw on television and casually checking my numbers. First, one number came up, and then another until I had arrived at six. I was simply stunned and shouted for my daughter Teri who was in the kitchen so that she could come and check them for me. Of course at first she didn’t believe me – it was a case of ‘here goes mum again’ – but then we confirmed the numbers and became unbelievably excited. It’s like one enormous Christmas present I can share with my whole family”.

Stephanie continued: “I have Multiple Sclerosis and have been in a wheelchair for two years, so I live with my daughter Teri. I would really like to build two houses side by side, together with an indoor swimming pool and a gym so that everyone can enjoy their leisure time and keep fit. It would also be lovely for the grandchildren to have plenty of space to run around.”

For Stephanie, who was born in Lowestoft, the win is tinged with the sadness of knowing that her husband Stephen, who died two years ago from a heart attack, is not around to share in the happiness. She added: “I know he would be absolutely ecstatic and would want us to book a flight to Las Vegas straight away. I have promised myself that I will do the trip anyway in his honour.”

Stephanie’s winning ticket, which was a regular line made of family birthdays and numbers chosen by her late husband, was bought at Tesco in the centre of Lowestoft. The winning Lotto numbers on Saturday 9 December draw were 5, 8, 10, 18, 20 and 46.

Tonight’s (15 December) EuroMillions Rollover jackpot is an estimated £26 million, while tomorrow night’s (16 December) Lotto jackpot is an estimated £4.7 million. Every Lotto play slip now comes with its own Dream Number – it is up to players to mark ‘yes’ to give their Dream Number its chance of winning up to £500,000, or choose a Lucky Dip®.
